St. Julien Hotel
Project Location: Boulder, Colorado
Project Data: The St. Julien hotel is downtown Boulder's first four star hotel since the construction of the Boulderado in 1996. Designers attempted to bridge contemporary design and the traditional mountainous feel of Boulder with this hotel.
Boulder's Central Area Generic Improvement District mandated that a two story, 650 space parking garage be built directly below the hotel. The parking garage measured 239,000 sf. The garage was scheduled to be opened 4 months before the hotel.
JeHN Engineering, in conjunction with Jehn Water Consultants, designed a permanent dewatering system for the project using an intricate series of collection drain pipes and transportation systems embedded in ¾-inch washed gravel encompassed with filter-fabric. This piping leads to an internal sump pit that is capable of removing 350 gpm. The system has dual backups as well as a fail safe measure. The procedures used in the design included an initial investigation, drilling, aquifer testing, and a ground water flow model.
